Larry Remington, Discipleship Pastor
Hi, I'm Larry and I love what I do here at Parkway Place. My responsibilities include overseeing most all the adult ministries, which includes Community Groups, Bible Study Groups, discipleship groups, ministry opportunities, getting new members involved in an area of serving that best matches their "SHAPE." I lead our BodyLife 301 class, as well as lead short-term Bible studies, financial ministries -- anything that has to do with adults, that pretty much falls under my umbrella. When people ask me what I do, I usually respond, "other duties as assigned!" My favorite thing is that I get to lead a Community Group of a bunch of 20-year olds one night each week -- they keep me young and on my toes! I also like to spend time with some of the younger guys in our church, hopefully helping them avoid some of the mistakes I made when I was their age.
Basic Stuff: I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, with a brother 2 years younger than me, and a sister that's 9 years younger than me. My mom and dad still live in Louisville. I went to Jeffersontown High School (Kentucky Basketball Champs in 2006!) I've lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Missouri, and Arkansas. Parkway Place is the 3rd church I have had the privilege to serve. I also have about 20 years of retail experience, with 7 years of that being with LifeWay Christian Stores. Wanda and I have two sons, Matt, who lives in Las Vegas, and Tim, who lives here in Little Rock, and is also a member of Parkway Place. He plays guitar in our Passion venue.
Education: I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BS degree in Economics. Several years later I graduated from Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, GA, with a Master's of Religious Education degree.
Interests and Favorites:
PLACES: Hawaii and the Rocky Mountains -- God must have had a great time creating those places!
WHAT'S ON MY IPOD: In my case, it's an MP3 player -- everything from Eric Clapton, BB King, Robert Johnson and the Beatles to Chris Tomlin and most all of the Passion releases.
BOOKS: I read a book a week (most without pictures!) with my favvorites being most anything by Tom Clancy, Good to Great, Purpose Driven Life, Purpose Driven Church, and Seven Laws of the Learner.
WHAT DO YOU TIVO: I used to record The Andy Griffith Show, but I don't have to now -- I've got all the B&W shows on DVD!
SPORTS TEAMS: Anything University of Kentucky (especially basketball), and St Louis Cardinals baseball.
MOVIES: The Blues Brothers, Blazing Saddles, The Fugitive, Hoosiers, and Hunt for Red October.
HOBBIES: Reading, sports, especially college basketball, giving Greg Kelley a hard time (he is so easy!).
DISLIKES: People who are late (my motto is "If you're not 15 minutes early, YOU"RE LATE!).
ODD FACT: When I was a senior in high school, I was nominated for "Most Bashful" in my class -- I lost because no one knew who I was.
